Are You Dating a Narcissist?...

NARCISSISTIC BEHAVIOR. COULD YOU BE DATING A NARCISSIST?

Narcissistic Behavior - Signs You are Dating a Narcissist

It is hard enough getting into and maintaining a relationship these days. There are just so many different factors involved in today's fast paced world that marriages and relationships seem more difficult to keep together. This is especially true for people who show signs of narcissistic behavior. If all your knowledge of narcissism revolves around people who love only themselves, you only are partially correct. It actually is a disorder that affects people's personalities. It typically is found in men, although women can suffer from the disorder as well. There are different signs in which you can check to see if your partner is suffering from this disorder, but it is best to let a mental health professional do the actual diagnosis.

The main sign of narcissistic behavior that most affects relationships is a lack of ability to empathize. In relationships, it is important to view your partner's feelings as if they were your own. Narcissistic people cannot do that because they believe in their minds that they are the only ones that matter. Another sign is entitlement. Because they feel they are the most important person, they feel they should be treated differently because they are better. Your partner may also take advantage of others without any thought as long as it will benefit himself.

Because they have this need to be praised, they will seek out attention that will give them positive praise or admiration. They often do whatever it takes to get this attention, even if it is detrimental to those around them. Another trait that could signify narcissistic behavior is jealousy. They feel in their minds that everything should be about them, so they become jealous if someone else is getting the attention they want. They cannot feel good about other people's successes because they often view them as unwarranted. All of these signs can cause great problems in a relationship.

Another sign of narcissistic behavior your partner may possess is idealizing over people or actions. This is how they get people into relationships with them many times because they tend to put their partners on imaginary pedestals in the beginning. They then remove you from there without any warning or merit. If your partner is showing any of these signs, it does not necessarily mean he is a narcissist. If you think he may be, you and your partner need to seek mental help from a professional.

Today's Inspiration, Poem or Quote:

"At the innermost core of all loneliness is a deep and powerful yearning for union with one's lost self." - Brendan Francis

This Week's Prayer or Thought:

"No matter what happens in my day, I'll try to remember that nothing last forever. If some good should come of my day I will embrace the joy close to my heart and feel its glory. If some bad should come of my day, I'll try to let it slide right by me and remember that, "this, too, shall pass".

Today, before acting on temptation I'll stop and think first, and avoid doing something I might later regret. I'll find healthy alternatives to bad emotions. I'll touch another life in a positive way.

Today I'll try to remember that this day is just for me, and I will never have the opportunity again to shape this day into one that will be forever a beautiful memory
