Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance.”
~ Garth Brooks, from the song, ‘The Dance’

We all have our ‘feel good’ movies that we love to watch; movies that move us. I can think of many right off the bat: Flashdance, Cocktail, Top Gun, Dance with Me, The Yes Man, Dirty Dancing, Forrest Gump, Burlesque. These are movies that move us. Movies that -- while we watch them -- we start to feel alive and invigorated! When you think of it they all have one theme in common... Yes, many of them have ‘dancing’ as the theme, but it’s not the dancing that awakens our soul … it’s the unyielding ‘passion’ for something that the characters' possess, pursue and conquer that makes us feel good.

These movies all have the common thread of people pursuing their passion.

It’s the pursuit of their ‘passion’ that invigorates us and incites us into action; it’s the pursuit of ‘passion’ that makes us feel alive.

In the movie, The Yes Man, we see how exciting it can be to say ‘yes’ to new things and experience fresh awakenings. Unfortunately, many of us become stuck in our everyday routines, safe in the repetition of the ‘familiar’. But are we really living? Do we really feel the unique ‘passion’ that we each hold and that longs to be awakened in us?

What ‘passion’ are you subduing in your life? What ‘passion’ do you have that you keep ‘putting off’ for another day? When you can identify the one thing that you could happily spend hours doing without any monetary compensation then you have found your passion.

Just by awakening our passion, we can have these same ‘feel good’ lives that these movies instill in us in just the short 100 (or so) minutes that we watch them. We just need to learn to identify and go after our ‘passions’. And what better time to do that than now, when you can finally live for your own passions and not for that of someone else’s?

~~ Just for today I will stop and ask myself what makes me feel ‘alive’? Is it dance? Is it a sporting or athletic competition? Is it in providing help to my fellow man? Is it in rescuing abused animals, or in saving an endangered species? Is it in painting, constructing, restoring, composing, exploring, singing, or writing?

Today I will ask myself ‘what is my passion’ and I will make the effort to live my passion out.

Today I will free the passion that lives deep inside of me, for no better time than now is it possible to answer to ‘me’. I will say ‘yes’ to new experiences, and I will feel the stimulating exhilaration of me experiencing ‘The Dance’ of life and the pursuit of my passion. Today I will live out my reigning dream.

Just for today I will let my ruling passion out and I will breathe in the invigorating aura of feeding my soul’s driving desire. Just for today I will pursue my passion. ~~

“Chase down your passion like it's the last bus of the night.” ~ Glade Byron Addams

“Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~ Harold Whitman

“If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.” ~ T. Alan Armstrong

“The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.” ~ Earl Nightingale

“Without passion you don't have energy; without energy you have nothing.” ~ Donald Trump
